Spring 2011
Willow Creek Student Impact Group ended their seven-month long volunteer experience in April by organizing an Easter egg hunt for the children at Little City. The 40 volunteers helped the children find over 200 plastic eggs that were hidden throughout Little City’s recreation center.
Students from the Fashion Studies Program at Columbia College volunteered at Little City’s Fashion Show in March 2011.
The following corporate/school groups volunteered for Smiles Tag Days in April 2011. Thomas Middle School, Prospect High School, three of Paramount Staffings’ Illinois branches, and employees from the Barrington Branch of Coldwell Banker. We also had the support of our local banks, including Fifth Third, American Chartered, and First Midwest.
Volunteers from Holy Family Parish of Inverness spent the entire day with our athletes on May 1 and helped with the Special Olympics spring games.
Little City’s own neighbors, Schneider Electric, devoted an entire day to volunteering and assembled four raised flower beds for the adult horticulture program.
Winter 2011
The Student Impact Group at Willow Creek Community Church will be spending another year lending a hand to the children and adults on Little City’s Palatine campus. Every Sunday, over the course of 7 months, a different high school group affiliated with Willow Creek will be on campus in a variety of roles, including leading craft projects with the children, playing basketball with the adults, and leading other recreational and social activities with Little City participants.
The Arlington Heights branch for Bank of America hosted a three week book drive for the Little City Book Fair. A group of ten volunteers from several Bank of America branches volunteered for three hours in the book warehouse, sorting and organizing the books.
Fifteen volunteers from the Palatine Bridge Youth Group hosted a Valentine's Day Ice Cream Social for the children and young adults at Little City on February 16th in the Little City gymnasium.
Fall 2010
A special education class of 30 students from Hoffman Estates High School visited the Palatine campus to decorate Thanksgiving-themed greeting cards. The cards were designed to supplement the Thanksgiving food baskets distributed to foster families through the ChildBridge Community Services program. The administrative office of the school also held a food drive to benefit Little City and collected enough food to feed five families in the foster care program.
Northbrook-based Fishman Public Relations handled some heavy duty cleaning in CLF West building on the Palatine campus. The group also sorted books in the book warehouse and packaged donated food items for Little City’s Thanksgiving food drive, which sponsored twenty-five families served by Little City’s ChildBridge Community Services program.
In early November, leaders from the Information Technology department of Schaumburg-based Motorola helped clean The Point, Little City’s Hanover Park CILA, in preparation for its grand opening event on November 15.
AMCOL International assisted Little City’s Center for Horticulture by preparing the fields for the Fall harvest. AMCOL is headquartered in Hoffman Estates.
Allstate Insurance Company’s corporate Leadership Team spent time this past October cleaning the children’s homes on the Palatine campus in time for Halloween. The group, which presented a generous check to Little City after their service, also purchased festive Halloween decorations and helped adorn each of the homes.
On October 2, Broadspire, a Crawford Company in Schaumburg, dedicated their 2nd Annual Global Day of service volunteering for the inaugural Little City Miles for Smiles 5k Walk event.
