The Center for the Arts

Luke
Getting guidance from top-notch facilitators is one of the many things that makes The Center for the Arts a premier program at Little City.

The Center for the Arts at Little City Foundation is dedicated to providing opportunities for artistic expression. Through media arts, studio, textile design, performing arts, children’s art programs, art exhibitions and community outreach, The Center for the Arts develops collaborative models that allow individuals, both with and without disabilities, to work together through the paradigm of a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary arts program, including:

  • Studio Arts – The Studio Arts Program enables its participants to explore a full range of art mediums, such as drawing, painting, sculpture and graphic design. Selected works from the studio arts program are showcased at gallery exhibitions and art fairs.
  • Design Center – The Design Center is a vocational program in which individuals interested in fashion and textile design acquire skills to develop wearable art through silk screening, beadwork, embroidery and sewing. The work is featured in fashion shows, distributed to retail outlets and displayed in gallery exhibitions.
  • Ceramics – Pottery and Hand Building-Sculpture – Our ceramics studios promote hand-eye coordination and opens the program to the visually impaired by offering tactile methods of creativity and interaction.
  • Media Arts – The Media Arts Program encourages and supports the creative expression and information skill-building of people with disabilities. Through the use of media technology, individuals develop production skills in audio, video and graphic arts.
  • S’ART (Special Art) – This program provides classes in movement, music, performance, studio and media arts, and is specifically designed for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This program is provided in both the Palatine and Chicago locations.

In addition, The Center for the Arts sponsors an arts outreach program that serves people with disabilities in other communities where they work, live and learn. The Center has won numerous local and national awards.
