PALATINE, Ill.–July 13, 2011—Little City artists will be in attendance for the artist reception on Friday, July 15 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. for their “Clean House” exhibit at the Health in the Arts Clinic Gallery. Admission is free and there will be an opportunity to meet many of the artists.

Little City’s Center for the Arts has provided children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities the opportunity to explore and expand their unique and creative talents through the arts. Professional artists act as facilitators by encouraging artists at Little City to expand their reach and skills, which results in art that transcends the disability of the individual who created it.
“The artists of Little City have an incredible sense of wonder about life and the world, exhibiting imagination and rich invention. To view their works is to take a voyage to wild and unique worlds,” stated Robert Kameczura, curator of the Health in the Arts Gallery.
Artists featured in the “Clean House” exhibit include Harold Jeffries, whose every piece of art fits into his larger lifelong project to draw comprehensive blueprints for Heaven, Luke Tauber, who continues his investigation into the lives and deaths of the great classical composers and Tarik Echols, who builds his artwork from repeated and overwritten words and phrases. Other artists include Peggy Brostrom, Jeff Burke, Lori Couve, Joe Flasch, John King, Mike Lyon, Wayne Mazurek and John McClelland.
“The artists of Little City broaden our horizons, they see the world with fresh eyes and present it back to us stained in colors and overlaid in forms that we could never have imagined,” said Frank Tumino, Center for the Arts Administrator. “The ‘Clean House’ exhibition offers a doorway into the private world of these talented artists,” he added.
Little City’s artists create varied works in the fields of painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, fiber arts, applied arts, film, video and photography. These artists have gained notoriety and have exhibited in some of the finest galleries and museums in American and Europe, such as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Hyde Park Art Center, the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore and the Museum of Everything in London.
The “Clean House: The Artists of Little City” exhibition will continue until September 1, 2011. The Health in the Arts Clinic Gallery located at 835 South Wolcott Street, Room E144, Chicago, IL 60612, is open Monday through Friday from 9 to 4 p.m. The Health in the Arts program works towards diagnosing and preventing injuries that are related to working in the arts.
