Little City Foundation Forges Ahead with On-Site Medical Clinic and Hires Advanced Practice Nurse to Provide Dedicated Healthcare to Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

Thanks to funding by the Alvin H. Baum Family Fund and assistance from Northwest Community Hospital (NCH), Little City Foundation (LCF) hires Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Kim Hogan to provide early care, triage and assessment for the hundreds of children and adults on Little City’s Palatine Campus

PALATINE, IL, JAN. 20, 2009 – Based on a therapeutic community approach and committed to providing a higher quality of life to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, Little City Foundation (LCF) leaps forward with its plans for an on-site medical clinic with the acquisition of a dedicated Advanced Practice Nurse (APN).

“You can’t achieve sustainable and full quality of life without addressing the health and medical needs of children and adults with disabilities; we are grateful to have the support of visionary and honorable philanthropists like Alvin H. Baum,” commented Executive Director Shawn E. Jeffers.  “We look forward to first-class medical expertise from Ms. Hogan and offering this invaluable service to our residents and participants.”

Kim Hogan completed her Master’s degree from University of Illinois at Chicago and obtained certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2009.  She possesses more than 25 years of nursing experience in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit at NCH and has regularly volunteered at Little City the past several years.  Hogan will remain part of the NCH staff and Dr. John McGillen of NCH will serve as the collaborating physician for the APN model of care at Little City

“I am very excited about the joint venture between Northwest Community and Little City to establish the new clinic,” commented Hogan.  “I'm looking forward to working with a team of dedicated nurses and other staff to begin a new era of improved health and wellness for Little City residents.”

A generous gift of $280,000 from the Alvin H. Baum Family Fund was presented to Little City Foundation at its Golden Anniversary Gala in November for three years of funding for a dedicated APN.
